My son Michael and I got a late start in search of our favorite cold water quarry. We fished a couple of our normal winter ice fishing areas and found ourselves fishless 1 hour into our day. ?
I remembered the ice was there just a few days ago and the lake temperature rose to 36 degrees. I decided to fish slightly shallower than normal for winter.
Lake Wallenpaupack in Pike County is normally frozen by now and fisherman are usually enjoying hard water action but not this year. The lake was almost safe in some areas a couple of times but the weather warmed and this last warmup it completely melted. I think the fish are a bit confused! I was catching big females? along with males in prespawn spots. These spots are normally loaded in early April. I look for a flat that drops in more than one direction on the end (a corner) close to a spawning area. On this day I duplicated this pattern in 3 areas. ??⏳
