Fall striper fishing is here. With the temperatures falling the striper bite will heat up! Lake Wallenpaupack in Wayne and Pike Counties is the 3rd largest lake in Pennsylvania. My preferred method of fishing is casting but many anglers troll at times for this wondering sometimes elusive fish.
Most often as the water cools stripers will move toward spring locations as long as the alewives are present. Find fish in the 8-15 ft range with a drop close by or sometimes shallow flats will hold schools that will make short feeding frenzies at first light or dusk.
There are both Hybrid striped bass (cross between white bass and striper) and purebred striped bass in the lake. Pure breds up to 35 lbs can be caught and hybrids up to about 13 lbs have been taken
I prefer casting Keitech Swimbaits on a 1/4 oz VMC Boxer Jig with my medium action 7 ft ST Croix Avid Spinning rod. The 7 ft rod will allow for farther casts and the sensitive rod will allow you to feel the bite on those long casts. Then HANG ON!!!!
